Cabin Activity Counselor Job Description

As a Wico camp counselor, you have a dual role: you live in a cabin with 6-14 campers and teach/coach in your activity area of expertise (see below for Activity Areas at Wico). The responsibilities of a counselor can be compared to the job of a “working” parent. 90% of our staff have this role. Each staff member has two distinct supervisors, the Head Counselor, who oversees all aspects of a particular age group, and the Activity Head, who oversees the activity area in which a staff member is teaching.

As a Camp Mom, you live and work with our youngest campers (ages 7-9). Instead of working in a specific area, you chaperone our youngest campers to their activities and participate with them!

Male Activity Counselor

 

Male staff at Wico instruct in tennis or waterfront. When not teaching/coaching, they lend a hand to the rest of the camp by setting up special events and doing area and camp prep and clean-up (pre-camp, on visiting day, and other special occasions). Male counselors at Wicosuta live with other male staff in separate housing on camp.

Photographer & Websmaster

The webmaster and photographer are responsible for documenting everything that takes place at camp through photographs and videos.

Group Leader

The Program Team organizes and maintains all aspects of our camp program from scheduling daily activities and trips to planning and running evening activities and special events.

Transportation & Trips Coordinator

Transportation & Trips Coordinator Job Description

The Transportation and Trips Coordinator collaborates closely with camp administration, the program team, operations team, office staff, and the entire camp community. This pivotal role involves coordinating all off-site trips, ranging from all-camp trip days to daily excursions like visits to ice cream shops or other camps for sporting events.

Administrative Staff

Office staff are responsible for facilitating the efficient and effective operation of the Wicosuta Office.

Office Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Daily administrative support for camp staff, such as data entry, mailings, etc.
  • Answering phones
  • Camp-wide announcements
  • Mail collection and sorting

Kitchen Staff

Kitchen Staff Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting the Head and Assistant Chefs in meal preparation
  • Set up for all camp meals
  • Service of camp meals
  • Cleaning of kitchen and dining hall
  • Dishwashing
  • Assisting with the service of food during occasional camp evening activities

Cleaning Staff

Cleaning Staff Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning bathrooms throughout the camp, including toilets, showers, sinks and floors
  • Vacuuming and tidying office areas
  • Sweeping common porch areas
  • General tidiness and beautification of camp facilities
  • Working with our nurses to keep all aspects of our health care facility clean
  • Laundry as needed

Maintenance Staff

The maintenance team is the backbone of camp. Behind the scenes, the maintenance team works to uphold the highest standards of safety and comfort for our staff and campers. The maintenance team is responsible for making sure that everything is working effectively, everything on camp is looking great, and all equipment is working or fixed.

Health Center Staff

Wicosuta’s Health Center staff is responsible for the health, safety and TLC of our campers and staff. Our Health Center is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Health Center Staff Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Dispensing medications
  • First Aid
  • Managing the health and safety of campers and staff
  • Communicating specific camper health needs (allergies, special diets) to staff
  • Medical record keeping
  • Act as a liaison with local doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies
  • Communication with camp parents
  • Accompany sick/injured campers or staff to the hospital or to medical appointments
